Orientation on VB-G RAM G Held Under Pakyong District to Strengthen Rural Development
Pakyong, May 14 (IPR): An orientation programme on the Viksit Bharat–Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) (VB-G RAM G), organised by the Office of the Additional District Collector (Development), was held today at Rurban Complex, Pakyong.
The programme aimed to familiarise PRI functionaries with the provisions of the VB-G RAM G Act and guide Gram Panchayat Units (GPUs) on implementing the new norms effectively.
Addressing the gathering, ADC (Development) Mr Sangay Gyatso Bhutia informed that MGNREGA has now been restructured under the VB-G RAM G framework and highlighted the mission’s major focus areas, including water security through water-related works, rural infrastructure development, livelihood-related infrastructure, and mitigation works for extreme weather events. He advised the representatives to utilise the scheme to accelerate development in their respective areas.
Emphasising the importance of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, he highlighted the rules of the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026, stating that the GPUs will serve as the implementing bodies at the grassroots level. He emphasised the need for proper waste segregation, identification of Bulk Waste Generators (BWGs) and the adoption of effective waste management practices to ensure cleaner and healthier surroundings.
During the programme, Additional District Project Coordinator (ADPC), Pakyong District, Mr Avtar Chettri, provided an overview of the VB-G RAM G Act, outlining its key provisions and enhancements, including 125 days of guaranteed employment, wage payments within 14 days and a 60:40 Centre-State funding ratio.
He stated that the act focuses on infrastructure development, improved accountability and planning in accordance with Gram Panchayat categorisation. In addition, he also elaborated on the Viksit Bharat Act 2025 and encouraged all GPUs to actively participate in strengthening infrastructure, ensuring income security and promoting holistic rural development.
A session on cyber security was also conducted by SHO Pakyong, Mr Pradeep Chettri, wherein he shared information on various cyber fraud cases reported in the State, further advising the attendees to verify all financial transactions carefully and spread awareness about cybercrime within their communities.
Furthermore, he also shared the National Cyber Crime Helpline toll-free number, 1930, urging attendees to report cyber fraud and seek assistance through the NCHP cyber help service.
The programme concluded with the distribution of prizes to winners of the painting competition themed “Mahatma Gandhi and Villages of Viksit Bharat,” organised by the Office of ADC (Development), RDD, Pakyong, followed by a felicitation ceremony to the best-performing GRSs from various blocks and job workers under MGNREGA.
The event was attended by Zilla Panchayat members, Panchayat Presidents and BDOs from various blocks.
