On the eve of Tendong Lho Rum Faat, prayers by Bongthings at Namchi bazaar

Namchi, 7th August (IPR): On the eve of the auspicious occassion of Tendong Lho Rum Faat a traditional prayer by the bongthings was held at Namchi bazaar, today. The prayers were conducted with the support of members from South Renzong Mutanchi Rong Tarjum (RMRT) and also present were few local gentry.

Advisor (RMRT) Mr. S. J. Lepcha informed that this year this ceremony is being observed keeping in view the norms laid out by the State Government due to the ongoing pandemic. He added that Tendong Lho Rum Faat is one of the oldest traditional festival celebrated by the Lepcha community. Mr. Lepcha informed that the members of RMRT will be heading towards Tendong Hill, wherein a full fledged prayers and obeisance will be performed tomorrow for the well being of all sentient beings and to keep the world safe from COVID-19.

It maybe mentioned that this year Tendong Lho Rum Faat will be celebrated in a very small scale and as per the guidelines of the State Government at Tendong Hill which is located at 2640 meters (8660 ft) from the sea level and is 7 kms uphill from Damthang bazaar. The prayer will be done in the presence of the pious stone “Lungchok” installed at the hill.
