NCORD Committee Gyalshing Conducts Awareness Programme on Substance Abuse and Mental Health At Pelling
Gyalshing, March 31 (IPR):The Department of Labour, Gyalshing, in collaboration with the Health and Tourism Departments of Gyalshing, conducted an NCORD Awareness Programme on Substance Abuse and Mental Health for Hoteliers and Homestay Owners of Pelling and surrounding areas at the Norbu Ghang Resort, Upper Pelling, Gyalshing District,today.
Mr Tenzing D Denzongpa, District Collector, Gyalshing-Cum-Chairperson of the NCORD Committee, graced the programme as the Chief Guest. He was accompanied by the Superintendent of Police (Gyalshing) Mr Tshering Sherpa, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO Gyalshing) Mr Bimal Gurung,Assistant Director (SIB) Mr Amarjeet Kumar Sinha, along with the Members of Pelling Tourism Development Association(PTDA).
The programme was held under the direction of the District Collector, following an NCORD meeting on 17 March 2026. It aimed to ensure that stakeholders are efficiently sensitised to the criticality of strict compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
DC Gyalshing maintained the District Administration’s stance of absolute intolerance toward substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking, stating, "Nobody is above the law."
Mr Denzongpa also issued a stringent advisory to stakeholders regarding maintaining cleanliness and appropriate hygienic practices, strict compliance with the mandatory provision of CCTV installation, proper garbage segregation and timely maintenance of drainage systems and, and ensuring uncluttered vehicle parking.
Furthermore, the DC advised stakeholders to display a comprehensive list of "Do’s and Don’ts" in easily noticeable areas for the information of visiting tourists. He noted that strict adherence to such initiatives would greatly benefit the safety and cleanliness of the properties.
The SP, Mr Sherpa, emphasised the importance of Form-C, a mandatory online document under the Foreigners Act 1946. He underlined that, upon the arrival of foreign guests, registration on the portal must be conducted within 24 hours to track the movement of foreign nationals within the district.
The resource persons for the programme included SDPO Mr Bimal Gurung, Assistant Director (SIB) Mr Amarjeet Kumar Sinha, Health Department Counsellor Ms Bindya Pradhan, and Tourism Department Information Assistant Ms Tshering Lakhi Bhutia. Each expert provided invaluable insights across law enforcement, public health, and the tourism sector to the attendees.
Earlier, the programme commenced with a welcome address by the Assistant Labour Commissioner (ALC) and Nodal Officer for NCORD, Mr TN Bhutia. ALC Mr Tilak Chand Sharma also outlined the primary objectives of the event.
The day-long programme was attended by the Assistant Director of the Tourism Department, Mr Dorjee Tenzing Bhutia, along with various officials and tourism stakeholders.
