Gyalshing District Conducts Coordination-cum-Monsoon Preparedness Meeting with Heads of Offices of the District
Gyalshing, May 6 (IPR): A district-level pre-monsoon preparedness meeting for 2026 was convened by the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Gyalshing, under the chairmanship of the District Collector Mr Tenzing D Denzongpa, at the Conference Hall,Gyalshing District Zilla Panchayat,Kyongsa, today.

At the outset, the District Collector Gyalshing underscored the importance of early preparedness in view of the district’s vulnerability to landslides, road blockages, flash floods, and infrastructure disruptions during the monsoon season. He directed all concerned departments to ensure that precautionary and preventive measures are put in place well in advance and stressed that effective inter-departmental coordination is essential for efficient disaster response and management.
Addressing the gathering, Mr Denzongpa highlighted the damage and landslides experienced across the district during the 2025 monsoon season. He stated that the district must remain fully prepared for any such eventualities and reiterated that strong departmental coordination is crucial during emergencies. He further emphasised that disaster management is not solely the responsibility of authorities, but a collective duty requiring awareness, cooperation, and active participation from all sections of society.
With the onset of the monsoon season, the District Collector highlighted the importance of regular clearing of drains and appealed to the Gyalshing Nagar Panchayat and all GPUs to ensure proactive maintenance and preparedness measures. He also informed that excavation activities related to house construction shall remain suspended until the end of the monsoon season in the interest of public safety.
Further, he urged all line departments to work in close coordination and ensure the timely dissemination of information for prompt response during emergencies.
During the meeting, all departments presented detailed reports on their monsoon preparedness measures, including the availability of essential resources, manpower, machinery, and response mechanisms.
DPO (DDMA) Mr Ganesh Kumar Rai, also presented the District Disaster Preparedness Plan, highlighting coordination mechanisms, emergency response protocols, and the identification of vulnerable zones across the district. Emphasis was laid on the activation of control rooms, the establishment of early warning systems, and the timely dissemination of information to the public.
Key decisions taken during the meeting included:
Pre-positioning of machinery and response teams in vulnerable locations
Strengthening of communication networks for emergency response
Regular monitoring of landslide-prone and flood-sensitive areas
Conduct of awareness programmes for community preparedness
Additionally,it was also informed that the Subhash Chandra Bose Aapda Prabandhan Puraskar,one of the prestigious national honours announced every year on 23rd of January,the birth anniversary of Subhas Chandra Bose, initiated by the government of India, will be bestowed to recognise and acknowledge the Invaluable contributions of Individuals and Institutions in the field of disaster management and mitigation in the district.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the BDO Gyalshing, Mr Garap Dorjee Bhutia, along with the Panchayat President of Singyang-Chumbung GPU, donated a drug testing kit to the District Collector and Superintendent of Police, Gyalshing.
The meeting concluded with a collective commitment from all stakeholders towards ensuring preparedness and coordinated action for the upcoming monsoon season.
