Empowering Local Entrepreneurs: One-Day Training on Export Procedures Conducted in Gangtok

Gangtok, February 18 (IPR):
A one day Bootstrap Programme on Export Procedure & Documentation in International Trade for Entrepreneurs of Sikkim was organised by Commerce and Industries Department in coordination with Indian Institute of Foreign Trade( IIFT) Kolkata under RAMP Scheme at conference hall of Commerce and Industries Department Gangtok, today.
The primary objective of the programme was to equip local entrepreneurs with knowledge on export procedures, market identification, and opportunities in international trade.
Addressing the gathering, Mr Ravi Kumar, Director, MSME, Commerce and Industries Department, highlighted Sikkim's diverse and rich potential in various local products. He emphasised the need to focus on enhancing product quality to explore export opportunities. He underscored the significance of such workshops in identifying viable export products and markets.
He also briefed the participants on the department's initiatives, including training programmes and participation in exhibitions outside the state to provide exposure to local products. He further elaborated on the import-export processes in the state and informed the attendees about the 50% subsidy available for exports, encouraging entrepreneurs to take advantage of the scheme.
Dr. Raghuveer Negi, Assistant Professor at IIFT, delivered a PowerPoint presentation on export procedures and market identification, Export Documentation and Logistics. He provided insights into international trade, explaining the import and export process in global markets.
His session covered key aspects such as raising awareness about international trade, strategies to approach buyers, methods for entering and identifying markets, conducting market research, and the importance of proper packaging and shipment documentation.
He also elaborated on export regulations, compliance requirements, and strategies to access foreign markets, including the process of reaching potential buyers. Additionally, he explained the significance of the Importer Exporter (IE) Code and the procedure for submitting an IE Code application.
In the second session, Mr Mannu Choudhary, Consultant GST, Freight Forwarder, and Chairman of Assocham Eastern Logistics Council, provided insights into customs procedures, the role of customs house agents, and the importance of insurance in international trade. Through a PowerPoint presentation, he explained key aspects of pre-shipment and post-shipment documentation, highlighting essential documents such as the bill of lading and the certificate of origin. His session emphasised the critical role of proper documentation in ensuring smooth trade transactions and compliance with global trade regulations.
The training had the presence of Mr Topden Zangpo,Joint Secretary, MSME, Commerce and Industries Department, Mr Prakash Rai, GM, DIC, Ms Namgyal Choden, Nodal Officer EAC (Export Assistance Cell), Official from Commerce and Industries Department, Entrepreneurs and Stakeholders.
