District-Level NCORD-NMBA Meeting Held in Pakyong to Strengthen Narcotics Control and Prevention Efforts
Pakyong, August 25 (IPR): The monthly district-level meeting of the Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD), along with the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA), was chaired by the District Collector, Pakyong, Ms Pari Bishnoi, in the presence of the Superintendent of Police, Pakyong District, Mr Tshering Sherpa, at the conference hall of the District Administrative Centre, Pakyong, today.
The meeting reviewed the action taken on the decisions of the previous meeting, with officials and representatives from concerned departments apprising the house of the initiatives and activities undertaken by their respective departments and activities carried out under NMBA.
During the meeting, the District Collector emphasised the need to strengthen backward linkages in enforcement efforts to facilitate effective tracing of the sources and supply channels of narcotic substances.
Calling for greater monitoring, she discussed matters related to the Financial Investigation Mechanism, Nasha Mukt Bharat Campaign and random testing.
She stressed the importance of awareness and preventive interventions to address substance abuse and encouraged the concerned department to incorporate the Nasha Mukt Bharat Pledge in programmes and public events. She underlined that such messages should be reinforced regularly through coordinated and sustained inter-departmental efforts.
She further emphasised the need for an evidence-based assessment mechanism to evaluate the outcomes and effectiveness of programmes undertaken for prevention and control of substance abuse.
During the meeting, SP Pakyong, presented an overview of the latest findings and enforcement activities in the district. He also highlighted the ongoing efforts of the department towards strengthening narcotics control.
In addition, he suggested coordinated action with the Forest Department for the destruction of cannabis plants found in forest reserve areas.
The meeting also deliberated on strengthening public awareness through positive and constructive narratives, intelligence units, de-addiction facilities, IEC activities, and adopting a proactive approach towards awareness and prevention initiatives in educational institutions.
Various ideas and initiatives proposed by departments and organisations were discussed, with members sharing their views and recommendations for strengthening collective efforts against substance abuse.
The meeting was attended by the Additional District Collector, Pakyong; Chief Education Officer; Deputy RTO; ACF (T); Welfare Officer; Assistant Commandant, 69 BN, SSB Pakyong; MO, AYUSH; DCPO, WC&DWD; Assistant Commissioner, Excise Department; Agriculture Development Officer; and members of Samaritan Rehab and SARATHI organisation.
