DEO-cum-DC Soreng Convenes Meeting on Special Intensive Revision of Electoral Rolls
Soreng, May 21 (IPR): The District Election Officer-cum-District Collector (Soreng) Mr Dhiraj Subedi chaired a meeting on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Electoral Rolls for Soreng District at the District Administrative Centre (DAC), Soreng today.
During the meeting, he briefed the participants on the preparation and implementation process of SIR 2026, including pre-draft and post-draft activities, house-to-house verification, rationalisation of polling stations, claims and objections, disposal procedures, enumeration phases and the roles and responsibilities of EROs and political parties during the revision process.
Deputy DEO-cum-ADC, Soreng, Mr DR Bista presented a PowerPoint presentation on various aspects of the Special Intensive Revision. The presentation highlighted the need for SIR, integrity and quality of electoral rolls, demographic changes, inclusion, probative evidence, pre-filled enumeration forms, draft electoral rolls, hearings and appeals, new enrolments, SIR schedules, rationalisation of polling stations and the responsibilities of Booth Level Agents (BLAs), electors and political parties.
The meeting also deliberated on several important agendas, including the schedule for SIR 2026, a rationalised list of polling stations, appointment of Booth Level Agents for left out political parties, participation of BLAs in the SIR workshop, establishment of help desks at ERO and AERO offices in Soreng District, activation of media teams and establishment of a media control room for monitoring media narratives and misinformation regarding SIR.
An open discussion session was also held during the meeting, where all possible doubts and queries regarding the procedures were deliberated at length.
The meeting was attended by ERO Daramdin & SDM (HQ) Mr Prem K Subba, ERO Soreng & SDM Soreng Ms Sakchum Lepcha, ERO Mangalbaria & SDM Mangalbaria Mr DN Sharma, AD (Election Cell) Mr Mani Kr Gurung, DIO (IPRD) Dr Aaron E Lepcha, AD (IT) Mr Amir Bhandari, representatives from political parties including BJP, SKM, SDF and CAP (Sikkim), along with officials from various line departments.
