Cooperation Department Gyalshing organises plantation drive-Cum -Awareness programme as a part of the ongoing observance of the International Year of Cooperatives 2025 at Rimbi
Gyalshing,June 9(IPR):
As part of the ongoing observance of the International Year of Cooperatives 2025, the Cooperation Department, Gyalshing, organised a plantation drive-Cum-Awareness programme with the theme- "Cooperatives Build a Better World".
The plantation drive was supported by Rimbi Timbrong Multi Purpose Cooperative Society, Rimbi Timbrong Milk Cooperatives and Farmer Producer Organisation at the newly developed Rimbi Picnic Spot,Children Park and Wellness Site under Rimbi-Timbrong GPU, Gyalshing district, today.
The objective of the programme was to promote environmental awareness under the scheme" Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam",encouraging sustainable practices and strengthening community participation through cooperatives.
Zilla Member 05/Melli-Rimbi Territorial Constituency Ms Sabitri Rai, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. She actively participated in the plantation drive and planted a sapling in honour of her mother under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, a flagship initiative of the Government of India.

Panchayat President 11/ Rimbi-Timbrong GPU Mr Mangal Rai,Joint Registrar of Cooperative Societies(JRCS)Ms Laden Gensapa, Deputy Registrar of Cooperative Societies(DRCS) Mr Palden Bhutia,DIO/IPR Gyalshing Mr Krishna Subba, Manager Rimbi Timbrong Multi Purpose Cooperative Society Mr Dawzang Lepcha,AO Mr Ajit Gurung, CIs,ACIs,staff of Rimbi Timbrong GPU,members of local NGOs, and local stakeholders.
Representatives from Rimbi Timbrong MPCS, Rimbi Timbrong FPO, and Bom Milk also joined the event, reflecting the collaborative spirit that the cooperative movement fosters.
The plantation drive began with the ceremonial planting of saplings by the Zilla Member, Panchayat President, DIO/IPR, and JRCS—marking a symbolic start to the day’s activities,followed by a mass plantation involving enthusiastic participation from community members and department officials alike.
In her address, Chief guest emphasized the urgent need for environmental awareness and conservation and also highlighted the significance of the "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam" campaign conceptualized by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, encouraging everyone to actively participate in the movement and contribute to its accomplishment.
Further,JRCS addressed the gathering with a brief but inspiring message, reiterating the core values of the cooperative movement. She encouraged those present to become members of the local MPCS, highlighting how such participation could contribute to the holistic development of the area.
Additionally,she urged the participants to actively participate in plantation drive and support the environmental conservation efforts initiated by the concerned GPU.
The day unfolded with active participation from the community, as saplings were planted and the cooperative message was meaningfully shared—both symbolising a shared commitment to a greener and more hopeful tomorrow.
