212th National-Level Bhanu Jayanti Celebration 2026 Continues in Soreng with Folk Dance Competitions

Soreng, July 8 (IPR): The ongoing 212th National-Level Bhanu Jayanti Celebration 2026 continued in Soreng district with vibrant folk dance competitions held at the Engineering Complex Hall, Dak Bungalow, Malbasey.
The event was graced by the Speaker (Sikkim Legislative Assembly), Mr MN Sherpa, as the Chief Guest. He was accompanied by MLA (Soreng-Chakung Constituency), Mr Aditya Golay and MLA (Salghari-Zoom Constituency), Mr Madan Cintury.
The event commenced with the ceremonial welcome of the dignitaries, followed by a welcome address by the Zilla Adhakshya (Soreng), Mrs Tila Devi Gurung.
The folk dance competitions were organised across three categories, Senior Secondary School, Secondary School, and Junior High School levels. A total of 11 Senior Secondary Schools, 10 Secondary Schools, and 10 Junior High Schools from across the district participated in the competitions.
The competitions were judged by Director of Step Dance Sensation Academy, Namchi, Ms Sushma Chhetri, Director of Dynamic Flickers Dance Academy, Ms Dilu Tamang, and Director of Tapashree Dance Academy Gangtok, Ms Komal Gurung.
In the Senior Secondary School category, PM SHRI Government Senior Secondary School, Soreng, secured the first position, followed by Government Senior Secondary School, Kaluk, in second place, and Government Senior Secondary School, Sombaria, in third.
In the Secondary School category, Government Secondary School, Pakkigaon, secured the first position, while Government Secondary School, Mangsari, and Government Secondary School Timburbong secured the second and third positions, respectively.
Similarly, in the Junior High School category, Government JHS, Bajek, secured the first position. Model English School, Sombaria, and Government JHS Birdhang secured the second and third positions, respectively.
During the programme, the Chief Guest was presented with a token of appreciation by the organising committee. The judges were also felicitated in recognition of their contribution to the successful conduct of the competitions.
Also, certificates of participation were presented to all participating schools.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by the Senior Welfare Officer (SWD), Mrs Prativa Tamang.
