WOMEN DIVISION:-
MISSION SHAKTI
Mission Shakti is an umbrella scheme under the Ministry of Women and Child Development, aimed to strengthen interventions for safety, security, and empowerment of women. It has two sub-schemes:
Sambal (100% Centrally Sponsored Scheme)- There are three components under this sub scheme:
1. Women Helpline: is a 24/7 helpline number for emergency services and information dissemination for women affected by violence. It has been integrated with the One Stop Centres to support women in distress.
2. Beti Bachao Beti Padas: This scheme is operational in all the six districts of the State and it aims in encouraging education and participation and survival of the girl child.
3. One Stop Centres: are intended to support women affected by violence, in private and public spaces, within the family, community and at the workplace. Such centres have been set up in all six Districts of the State.
Samarthya ( 90:10 CSS) - There are five components under this sub scheme:
1. Hub for Empowerment of Women: There are State and District level Hubs which work for convergence/coordination with Central Ministries to create awareness generation for the economic inclusion/empowerment of women in the State. Hub for empowerment of women has been established in all the Districts.
2. Sakhi Niwas : There are two Sakhi Niwas in the State. The Government of Sikkim established the Working Women’s Hostel at Deorali Gangtok in 1976 for providing hostel facilities to working women. Sakhi Niwas at Deorali has been renovated/repaired with State fund of Rs. 1, 00, 0000/- (Rupees one crore) and shall be functional from August 2024. It has a capacity to accommodate 71 residents. The Sakhi Niwas at Namchi is approved for renovation from the Government of India and shall be made functional.
3. Palna: This scheme provides crèche facility which enables parents to leave their children while they are at work and where children are provided stimulating environment for their holistic development. Crèches are designed to provide group care to children, usually up to 6 years of age, who need care, guidance and supervision away from their home during the day. At present only 25 Crèche Centres are functional in the State of Sikkim. The Department has established Creches in main Secretariat District Collectorate of Gangtok and Namchi.
4. Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (Pmmvy) Scheme:The Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana [PMMVY] is a centrally sponsored scheme which is aimed at strengthening intervention for women safety, security and empowerment. PMMVY Scheme is being implemented from 01.01.2017 in the country in accordance with the provisions of the National Food Security Act (NFSA), 2013 which provides for financial support for pregnant and lactating mothers to improve the health and nutritional status of mother and child as well as compensation for wage loss, if any. Since its inception, 19401 beneficiaries have been covered under this scheme.
5. Shakti Sadan: The objective of Shakti Sadan is to provide shelter for women in difficult circumstances who are victims of domestic violence, rape, social stigma.It is a centre which provides the residents with shelter, food, clothing, primary health facilities and other essential daily needed items. They will be facilitated for opening a Bank Account in their names in which an amount of Rs. 500 per month per resident shall be deposited which cannot be withdrawn by the account holders during their stay.The International Women’s Day is celebrated on 8th of March, every year.
