District-Level National Sports Day 2026 Observed at Kyongsa Stadium, Gyalshing.
Gyalshing, 29 August: The Department of Sports and Youth Affairs, Gyalshing District, successfully observed the District-Level National Sports Day 2026 at Kyongsa Stadium, Gyalshing, to commemorate the birth anniversary of legendary hockey icon Major Dhyan Chand.
The programme was graced by the Hon'ble President, Gyalshing Nagar Panchayat, Smt. Khena Maya Tiwari, as the Chief Guest. The event witnessed the enthusiastic participation of officers, Heads of Institutions, teachers, coaches, students, and sportspersons from various schools and colleges in and around Gyalshing District.
A series of sporting events and demonstrations were organised to promote physical fitness, sportsmanship, and healthy competition. The day's programme included:
- Chief Minister's 1-Mile Run for Under-15 Boys and Girls
- Open Shot Put Competition for Men and Women
- Tug of War for Men
- Archery Demonstration
- Zumba Fitness Session
- Exhibition Football Match between Sakyong XI and DIET College XI, Gyalshing
- Felicitation of promising athletes and archers in recognition of their outstanding performances and dedication to sports.
The felicitation ceremony formed a significant part of the celebration, encouraging young sportspersons to continue striving for excellence and inspiring other aspiring athletes to pursue their sporting ambitions.
The programme highlighted the importance of sports in nurturing discipline, teamwork, and a healthy lifestyle while paying tribute to the immense contribution of Major Dhyan Chand to Indian sports.
The Department of Sports and Youth Affairs, Gyalshing District, extends its heartfelt gratitude to the Hon'ble Chief Guest, all participating schools and colleges, Heads of Institutions, teachers, coaches, officials, volunteers, media representatives, and all participants whose enthusiastic support and cooperation contributed to the success of the event.
