Administration Responds to Landslide at Rimbi Singlitam; Rescue and Relief Operations Underway
An active landslide has been continuously occurring at Rimbi Singlitam, under Yuksam Sub-Division, with movement observed during both day and night, posing a serious threat to the safety of local residents, land, and property. As per the information received total of 30 households at Rimbi and 8 households at Singlitam, comprising over 150 residents in all, fall within the affected zone, and several individuals have additionally reported damage to land and property as a direct consequence of the ongoing landslide activity.
In response, the District Administration headed by District Collector Gyalshing, has swiftly mobilised rescue and relief efforts to safeguard the affected population.
Hon'ble Minister, cum area MLA, Shri T.T. Bhutia, visited the affected areas to assess the severity of the landslide and take stock of the damage on the ground. The Minister interacted with affected families, reviewed the extent of the destruction, and directed the concerned authorities to expedite all necessary rescue and relief measures without delay.
Concerned authorities have also been directed to carry out an immediate technical evaluation of the active landslide site to assess the extent and likely trajectory of the movement, along with a detailed risk assessment of nearby households, land, and property. Vulnerable households have been identified for immediate evacuation as a precautionary rescue measure, and arrangements for temporary shelter and relief accommodation are being made on priority to house affected and at-risk families.
Necessary safety measures, including close monitoring of the site, are being maintained to protect lives and property as the situation continues to evolve.
The Sub-Divisional Magistrate, along with the BDO, Yuksam, OSD to MLA Shri. Basant Tamang, Panchayats, members of civil society are conducting an on-ground assessment of the affected area, with a joint inspection involving the District Collector and all concerned line departments scheduled to follow shortly to further coordinate relief and rehabilitation measures. The administration has assured that the matter is being treated as highly urgent, with continuous monitoring and close coordination with local authorities to ensure the safety and well-being of all affected families.
