Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Sikkim chaired a meeting with the representatives of political parties of Sikkim concerning Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2026 on August 14, 2026, at his chamber in the Office of the CEO Sikkim at Baluwakhani.
During the meeting, the CEO Sikkim, Mr Raj Yadav explained about the process of appeal concerning SIR 2026 to the representatives of political parties. The CEO Sikkim clarified the process of appeal which consists of two tiers wherein the electors can appeal to the District Election Officer within 15 days from the day of rejection from electoral roll list by the
Electoral Registration Officer (EROs) and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs).
Further, he clarified that the electors can appeal to the CEO Sikkim within 30 days from the day of rejection by their respective DEO. The CEO assured the representatives of political parties that the entire hearing process is being recorded and the political parties can approach the CEO Office to verify the fairness of the hearing process done by Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and Assistant Electoral
Registration Officers (AEROs). He also sought cooperation from the political parties in case of doubts wherein appropriate actions were not taken as per the rule prescribed by the Election
Commission of India (ECI). He assured that al necessary actions wil be taken to address the issues faced by the political parties.
The CEO also apprised the representatives about the cut-off year of 1987 wherein electors possessing documents prior to 1987 wil be considered an Indian citizen and therefore they will be considered an eligible elector.
The political parties were open to the valuable suggestion presented by the CEO Sikkim towards streamlining the hearing process under SIR 2026.
