Relief efforts underway at Rimbi landslide; 35 households evacuated
Gyalshing, August 15 (IPR): The District Administration has initiated immediate relief and rehabilitation measures following the landslide at Singlitam-Rimbi under Yuksam Sub-Division, with a total of 35 households evacuated from vulnerable areas as a precautionary measure.
The Sub-Divisional Administration, Yuksam, conducted an on-site inspection of the landslide-affected area at Singlitam-Rimbi today to assess the situation and coordinate immediate relief operations.
The inspection and relief operation were carried out under the supervision of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Yuksam, Mr Jesse P Targain, accompanied by the Deputy Director-cum-Revenue Officer (LR&DMD), Yuksam, Mr Amrit Raj Rai, Panchayat President Rimbi-Tingbrum GPU, Mr Mangal Rai, Disaster Management Assistants, Gram Panchayat members, local volunteers and the affected landowners.
In view of the prevailing risks and safety concerns, affected families residing in vulnerable areas were evacuated and shifted to safer locations. Two temporary relief camps have been established at Singlitam and Rimbi to accommodate the affected families.
A total of 35 households have been evacuated to safer locations through the intervention of the District Administration. Five severely affected households from Singlitam village have been shifted to the temporary relief camp established at Singlitam, while four households have been shifted to the relief camp at Rimbi. The remaining 26 households have been relocated to the houses of their relatives.
To facilitate the establishment and management of the relief camps and meet the immediate essential requirements of the affected families, an amount of ₹50,000 was provided towards the establishment of the relief camps and procurement of essential commodities and other necessary items. Tarpaulins were also distributed to affected families to provide temporary protection to slide-prone houses.
A detailed assessment of damages to land, houses and other properties will be conducted tomorrow by the concerned officials. Based on the assessment, further necessary relief and rehabilitation measures will be initiated as per applicable provisions.
The Sub-Divisional Administration, in coordination with the concerned departments and local representatives, is closely monitoring the situation and has urged all concerned to remain alert and extend necessary cooperation during the ongoing assessment and relief operations.
It was further informed that Gyalshing District Collector, Mr Tenzing D Denzongpa, along with Minister and Area MLA, Mr Tshering T Bhutia, and officials from all concerned line departments, are scheduled to inspect the affected area tomorrow to review the situation and coordinate further relief and rehabilitation efforts.
