National Sports Day Celebration Reaches Chungthang

Mangan, August 25 (IPR): As part of the ongoing observance of National Sports Day 2026, the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs, Mangan, organised a Yoga session and the CM One Mile Run for Under-15 boys and girls at Chungthang Block today. The programme was held under the theme “Khelega Bharat, Jeetega Bharat”, with the objective of promoting physical fitness, discipline and sportsmanship among young people.
The programme was attended by BDO Chungthang Mr Johna Targain, as the Chief Guest, along with Additional Director, Sports and Youth Affairs, Ms Janim Lepcha, RO Mr Kessang Rikzing Lepcha, Zilla Panchayat Ms Diki Lepcha, Principal, Tasa Tengay Senior Secondary School Ms Tsheten Lepcha, Teachers, students, Staff of S&YAD and residents.
The programme commenced with the offering of khadas and ceremonial lighting of the lamp, marking the formal beginning of the day’s activities. The significance of National Sports Day and the importance of sports and physical fitness in the holistic development of young people were also highlighted during the programme.
The programme featured a Yoga session followed by the CM One Mile Run for Under-15 boys and girls, witnessing enthusiastic participation from students. The event provided an opportunity for young participants to develop fitness, endurance and a spirit of healthy competition.
In the Under-15 boys’ category, Rechab Bishwakarma secured first position, followed by Asbel Subba in second and Suman Bishwakarma in third position. In the girls’ category, Rinchen Ongmu Lepcha secured first position, followed by Lhakit Doma Lepcha in second and Ankita Ovaon in third position.
As part of the programme, the Additional Director, Sports and Youth Affairs, Ms Janim Lepcha, presented footballs to the school to encourage greater participation in sports and support sporting activities among students.
Certificates were also distributed to all participants in recognition of their enthusiastic participation.
The National Sports Day celebrations will continue with various sporting and fitness activities across the district, aimed at fostering a culture of physical fitness, discipline, teamwork and active participation among the youth.
