1. In order to provide for compulsory reporting and verification of antecedents of tenants and domestic and professional helps in the State of Sikkim, the State Government has enacted the Sikkim Tenants and Domestic and Professional Helps (Compulsory Verification) Act, 2008.

II. The Rules have also been notified and both the Act and the rules shall come into force w.e.f. the 1st day of September, 2009

III. the said Act requires all house owners having tenants and all employers of domestic or professional helps to report, within one month of the Act coming into force, such tenancy or employment with requisite details of the tenant and help for their compulsory verification of the office-in-charge of the Police Station having jurisdiction. The fees prescribed are:

1.      Rs 25/- (for exempted categories)

2.      Rs 100/- (for verifications to be conducted within Sikkim)

3.      Rs 150/- (for verifications outside the State)

IV. All house owners and employers of domestic and professional helps may kindly note the above provisions for compliance within the period of one month from 1st September, 2009 failing which they shall be liable to a penalty which may extend upto Rs 5000/- on conviction before the competent Magistrate.

V. Copy of the said Act and rules and the required proformas for verification are available on the State Government website www.sikkim.gov.in and also with each Police Station.
